About academic support services

The Office of Student Academic Support Services offers free services to all students enrolled in programs at the VCU Medical Center. The meetings are confidential and are one on one.

We offer students assistance in the following areas:

  • individualized counseling for academic self-concept issues
  • note-taking skills
  • organizational skills
  • problem-solving skills
  • reading comprehension strategies
  • referrals to appropriate counseling or student support services at the VCU Medical Center
  • test-taking strategies
  • test anxiety
  • time management skills
  • referral for tutorial services
  • other related study-skill strategies

Many students utilize the office’s services because of the rigor and volume of the health science curriculum. Referrals to outside agencies also can be made at the student’s request for Attention Deficit Disorder and Learning Disability evaluations.
